# Our Story
EOX was founded when we recognized that the traditional consumption and tedious processing of geospatial data on desktop software was becoming outdated. In the digital era, people want to access data in the cloud and on the web, with fewer interruptions and better data management support. This inspired us to create open-source software and tools to enable the consumption of geospatial data in the cloud and online. Our focus is on extracting the most value from the vast amounts of data collected by Earth observation satellites.
Moving away from monolithic software packages that required installation, we pioneered the use of new browser-based technologies to allow direct visualization and manipulation of data in the browser. This has made data significantly more accessible to the public. For data management, our EOxServer software has evolved alongside EOX since its inception, improving through the experiences gained from various projects and activities over the years. To meet new challenges, we developed the View Server suite, which has successfully launched EOxServer into cloud environments. View Server is a versatile and extensible software that registers various Earth observation products and exposes them via open interfaces. It forms the backbone of many of our operational services, research and development projects, and software products.
As the volume of Earth observation data and the associated processing requirements have grown exponentially, EOX has adapted its solutions and services to be cloud-native. Our development and deployment strategies now fully leverage the capabilities of cloud environments, improving resource allocation, infrastructure costs, and deployment speed. Given the complexity of setting up large-scale cloud environments, we developed our own comprehensive cloud management and setup service, EOxHub.
In our projects and activities involving the visualization of Earth observation data, we recognized the need for high-quality base maps to accompany the data. This has become another core component of EOX, and over time, we've gained experience and developed software libraries that enable us to apply large-scale processing campaigns on our cloud-based infrastructure to generate global composites like our EOxCloudless products. We now specialize in providing these datasets as off-the-shelf components, while also offering support for large-scale processing of bespoke products.
Today, we have cultivated a community of geospatial content developers, bloggers, remote sensing and imagery experts, cartographers, and data scientists who are users of EOxHub and our EOxCloudless satellite imagery. Our customers choose us because we offer the best cloudless imagery with high resolution at competitive prices, tailored to their specific needs. We are also committed to supporting open-source initiatives, having developed software and tools that enable open access to data consumption in the cloud and on the web.
